Moka Pot

A 1:1 scale model of the Bialetti Moka Pot.

This model was made during my second year at university, accurately recreated from technical drawings I had been supplied with. Using the technical drawings, I initially made a CAD model of the pot in Rhino. Using this file, I was able to laser cut each facet of the pot individually from 10mm acrylic.

I milled the edges of each of the facets to an angle so that they would fit together to form the tapered octagonal shapes of the original Moka pot. Once the facets had been stuck together with di-clo, the radii on the body of the pot were turned in using the lathe

The model was spray finished with a metallic grey body and black handles. I recreated the valve of the original Moka pot using a brass nut with a machined tube to screw into it.
