About Me
I am a graduate of BA (hons) Modelmaking at Arts University Bournemouth, with a particular interest in metalwork, sculpture and machining. Over the course of my time at University, I have focused on learning traditional craft and metalworking techniques, and applying this to my own design work.
In my personal work I am inspired by religious imagery and mythology, and the idea of reinterpreting the traditional into the contemporary. In the last few years I have also discovered a fascination with mechanisms and kinetic sculpture such as automata, and enjoy the challenge of bringing a sculpture to life through movement. I make use of the unique and versatile properties of materials such as metal, working with the material to create my sculptures.
Over the course of my degree I have developed a broad skill set, ranging from hard-edge product modelmaking to my own more sculptural metalwork. One of the aspects of the course I have enjoyed the most is the opportunity to learn skills in so many aspects of ‘making’, including machining, spray finishing, sculpting, laser cutting, various CAD softwares, wood and metalwork. Since leaving University, I have continued to develop my skills in metalwork, making a range of one-off pieces for clients and to sell on my Etsy page, as well as working in metal fabrication.
