Brass Collar

Commissioned replica of a collar from the V&A.

This piece is made up of 8 individually rolled, folded and hinged sections of polished brass. Each piece was sawn and milled to size before being given a radius and fold using sheet metal forming machines. The hinges were made of brass tubing which sits inside a radiused edge to conceal them from view from the outside of the collar. The tubing was silver soldered in place, using graphite rods to keep each piece of tube correctly aligned during the process. A machined pin slots in and out of the back section of the collar to allow it to be opened and closed for wear.

The collar was finished using a combination of hand and machine polishing, and lacquered to protect the surface from tarnish and damage.
